1956 Flxible Coach

Original 1956 Flxible Coach Model
218-B-1 S/N 30883, original engine model FB320 (8 cylinder GM, gasoline
fueled) w/less than 100,000 miles, when purchased from Harrisburg Railways
Bus of Harrisburg, PA, June, 1964.
Historically, our unit had been
assigned, with driver, mechanic, to a Scranton, PA Women’s College and was
being rotated due to a worldwide rotational maintenance contract with
General Motors which required they change their US fleets to new GM buses
under a worldwide scheduled maintenance, including a teardown and reassembly
line inspection. Our unit was included and was one of the first over the
new production / remanufacture line, and was subsequently purchased by us
for motor home conversion. Our conversion then became Number 491 of the
Family Motor Coach Association.
This unit has very low mileage
since conversion (less than 30000 miles) due to heavy work schedule and
frequent job related travel. Tires are 10 ply 900 x 20 truck type. New in
front (prior to storage), low wear (recaps) in rear. Conversion included;
interior paneled with walnut faced plywood, shower, vanity sink and toilet,
water heater in closet, overhead cabinets, stove/oven, combination fridge,
sink, propane furnace and cooking, carpeting, curtains, 2 “goucho” beds
(pull out to sleep 4), dinette for 4. Crawl access door to baggage
compartment, potable water tank and pump, space for included 6.5 KVA Kohler
generator, overhead track and stowage for 1 or 2 motorcycles through baggage
door, and inside access to vehicle engine.
Unit needs inspection of all
belts and hoses as storage follow-up. Has been garaged or covered since
purchase in 1964. No A/C, but easily installed towards forward roof to
allow minimum interference with vehicle radiator cooling. Original Flxible
Parts and Service Books included.
